I finally bred my first cory!!!

Post by DJ-don »

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
omg my bronze have just laid eggs!!!!!
they were ontop of the filter!!!
right now im just excited and happy!
i dont have any meth blue or fungal treatments except melafix which is a med
3 eggs have gone white in the middle im guessing they are the dead one's
is this a good idea to get just a plastic container without holes with gravel in the main tank so when they do i hatch i have to clean out the whole tank every day????
and i also just realised the tank filters are all clogged and smelly!
im doing a water change and filter clean right now!

yesterday i was too excited for anything!!!!!!!
and when i do the small water changes in the small fry saver, does it say to do water changes by replacing it with water from the main tank?
and some small snails have gotten into the fry saver.
is this okay because the snails are 0.5cm shells in diameter sized. this things must've gotten in there last night

Sorry to hear. I'm sure it will happen again.

I use a net-basket type breeding trap, which seems to work just fine for cory eggs/fry.

yep i have a breeders trap but i heard i had to do 25% water changes twice daily for cory frys but i found it very tedious so i got my self a container with sand so no bacterial carperts form. but im sure it'll happen again someday

Congratulations on the spawn! But I am sorry to hear the accident. Well, I use to breed them on a regular basis until I finally got rid off the breeding trio due to unstop breeding. My experience was if you can condition them well they almost can lay eggs every other week. And the fry are actually very tough IMO. I even done a experience with about 15 eggs hatched in a very small plastic container with 5 table spoon of water just flow on top of the spawning tank. I know this isn't the best way to hatch the eggs, but at least give you a feeling of how easy these fry can be raised. Currently, I am not using any fungus prevention chemical for my cory eggs. I use Lee's Three way breeder plastic container and results are pretty good as long as you don't over craw the eggs (I think 50-75 eggs on average per container would be OK, I have done 500 eggs one time and it was a totally failure). Bad eggs should be picked out immediately. Fry food I use to use microworm on bronze cory and results were acceptable. Now I use freshly hatched BBS exclusively.

i do hope they breed again but i actually have no idea what caused them to spawn. it was around just over a week before i found the eggs

Wow, congrats and not to worry, there will be more! I guess the secret for you is to keep doing whatever you're presently doing.

I always put a couple tiny snails in with the eggs in a plastic container that sits just inside the tank. I was told that they will keep the eggs clean and after MANY successful batches of eggs, I've never had fungus or ever used any fungus meds. No substrate but a fresh plant leaf to provide some shade/cover for the fry. I change out the water daily but not all of it. I just use a turkey baster to suction up any food bits from the bottom of the container and use tankwater to replace it. I have an airstone in the container to keep the water moving around the eggs and fry when they hatch.

If you're near a chemist or pharmacy. you can buy a tiny syringe there that has no actual needle but an empty tip where a needle would normally be screwed in. This is the world's handiest tool to suck up an individual egg that has gone white. It saves you from damaging any other eggs if they're all sort of stuck together initially.

The container I use is a salad box from the supermarket, very light, see-thru and you can just clip it to the rim of the tank. I have a few the same so I can just switch them out instead of doing a whole water change. Easy-peasy.

For food, I use shaving of regular food but initially frozen brine shrimp that has melted to room temp in a spoon. Works for me.

If you have plants, it may be worth a look to see if there's other eggs stuck here and there. If there's some on a leaf, just pop the whole leaf into the breeder box and take it out after they hatch.

Pretty exciting eh? I'm still amazed every time I see the female carrying a batch of eggs around :D

Keep us posted on your upcoming success.

just realised after a few hours, the methylene blue dyed off
the container was blue than later it went clear-there are no holes to allow other water from the other tank
