Hi all following this thread. Pardon my delay in jumping in (Amanda and Shane).

I did have the wonderful pleasure of being able to go caving and see and collect some Ancistrus cryptophthalmus at (or more properly in) the type locality (Caverna Passa Tres) in July of 1988. This certainly would not have been possible without the friendship and cooperation of ichthyologists Eleanora Trajano, Roberto Reis, Anna Maria de Sousa and a group of Brazilian and European spelunkers.

At the time I was able to bring a small group of youngish fish back and these were raised up and spawned the following year. My spawn was small (but the eggs were large!) but produced a group of youngsters. These were growing nicely...and a disaster hit my fishroom. All of the fish were lost.

There is obviously a little more than a lesson here. Had I broken up the group (some adults and young) and passed this partial on to another aquarist there might well be the chance that the hobby (and me) would still have this fascinating critter. But, for whatever reason (possibly...make that probably...ego or something akin to it) I didn't. And that, as is said, is that. Live and (hopefully) learn.

My past fish do live (sort of) in pictures and I was very proud to have two photos of them (male and female) included in Volume 2 of the Baensch Catfish Atlas by Ingo and Hans-Georg.

I did do a three part article on the trip in TFH Magazine a number of years ago. I do not have these immediately at hand, but will see about digging them out and posting the dates for any who might be interested in reading more.

I'd be delighted to reprint that series here. Anything I've sold to TFH is under a non-exclusive copyright basis, so it should be fine to run it again but this time to a somewhat larger readership?

At the very least, we could look at typing it in again from scanned pages, but if it's in electronic format even better.

The adults and fry were fed once a week? Is this in keeping with the nutrient poor habitat the fish come from?
