Synodontis euptera feeding

Post by Tigger_Sly »

Hi,

I have two lovely Synodontis euptera (featherfin/squeeker) catfish. They are growing fast and are nearly one!

I try to vary their diet between standard 'catfish pellets' (about 40% protein, then oil and veg), carnivore pellets, plecto wafers and blood worms (once a week). Lately however the larger of my two catfish seems to be getting rather bored by anything but the blood worms! He'll get all excited when I drop the pellets of wafers in, zoom towards them, eat one of two then seems disinterested with the remainder, and give me a look like 'what these again? where's the good stuff?'. I've increased the blood worms to twice a week to make sure he's eating enough and he practically inhales them they disappear that fast! My other catfish isn't so fussy, but then again he's smaller so takes whatever he can get before the big guy eats it all!

Any ideas for other food to try them on?

Thanks.

I've never heard of a Synodontis euptera that is picky on food. But I guess there is a first for everything.

Try "not feeding bloodworm" for a bit.

Try not feeding at all for a week, then offer whatever you choose - the fish should then not be so picky.

Alternatively you could try chopped earthworms from the garden, fine chopped prawns, cooked french beans, or any other type of pellet or foodstick.

I would be surprised if he doesn't like prawns. You could try confusing him by mixing a small amount of bloodworm with a larger amount of minced prawns (or some other food).

I have known euptera to eat the inner flesh of cucumber, pleco-style.

These are great thanks!

I'll try chopped prawns and cucumber centres over the weekend, he's such a contrary little fella! Swims around like he owns the place

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again
