Please comment this info about the L200 Hi-fin

Post by Anders »

Hello everyone,
I've been thinking for some while now of getting this very beautiful and unusual coloured pleco and last Sunday I bought three L200 Hi-fin plecos. The dealer then told me some interesting things about them. I would appreciate comments about the information he gave me, if it is right or wrong, and maybe it can be of some of use to others.

Size of the L200 â?? Hi-fin:
He claimed that maximum size is about 15cm and they are sexually mature at about 10cm. The hi-fin version of L200 is smaller than the other version with a straight ending dorsal fin which grows to a size of about 25cm (same as the L128). This, I think, may be correct since I saw a discussion here on the planetcatfish forum and an importer in Bogota (I think it was Shane) had the same experience.

Differences males/females:
He said that the males have larger spots and the spots are slightly more colourful (yellow) than the ones on the females.

Prices:
I bought these plecos for 350SEK (=38 euro) each and they are about 7-9cm. He said that the hi-fin version is more expensive and rare than the other one and he pays the exporter in Brazil (or if it was from Venezuela, I don't remember what he said) the same price for the hi-fin as for the L128 (which is also more rare and expensive).
I have seen L200â??s for about 800SEK (=86 euro), 9-11cm, in an other fish store, which I think is â??somewhatâ?
