Quick Help needed with newly acquired L.oncinus!!

Post by Caol_ila »

Hi!

On friday i looked a bit through a lfs which from time to time have nice cats and i stumbled over a spotted tailfin in a hole in a stone. immediately knew what it was and asked for the price...on Saturday i went back to get it when me/retailer realized that its got only one pectoral and only a tiny bit of fin left...so we talked a bit and i finally got it for 4â?¬.
Its quite small and looks very skinny. they said it was a give back and supposed to be from the same lot i got mine from (check elog for pics) but mines about triple the size of this one. So im kinda worried if hes allright. hes in a quarantine tank on his own and i added a bit of meth.-blue in case the wound is/gets infected but its not red or fluffy white so i think its quite an old wound.
My problem now is that he appeared very restless roaming the tank during day and a couple of times trying to jump from its tank...also his eyes seem a bit cloudy. So my guess is that hes got some internal infect that bothers him. Or that hes just very very hungry. As im at my gf place i didnt have frostfood here which im gonna pick up right away tomorrow morning.
I added a strong airstone and he seeks the bubblestream. I also added peat and hes got plenty of hiding places.

I was wondering if i should proceed with a nifurpirinol treatment in case it is a bacterial infection. I also have a meth.-blue/acriflavin combo here called tetra Medica General Tonic.
I really wonna help this little guy get over this alive. My guess is that he was outcompeted for food in the showtank at the lfs and in the follow got sick. His company there were 2*LDA1, 1*L204, 1*HUGE S.decorus and a Discus...
Thx for your help
Christian
cheers

update:
The little guy is still alive, but his barbels look awfull. I think ill give him a furanol bath today...as im really clueless. Still looks like bacteria to me though.
His belly looked better though last night after my gf fed him with whiteworms the other day.
cheers

Hi!

Hes survived so far. I had him on general medic by Tetra and after his barbels started deteriorating i gave him a bath in JBL Furanol. he started eating and his barbels stopped eroding. Im pretty confident that hell make it now. Still knocking on wood.
cheers

Hi!

Another update (if anyone cares):
I have introduced the fish to my tank with onca/dorads/corys and i hadnt seen him for a week but he just swam around eating whiteworms. Belly looks really fine.

Has anybody else made the experience that this fish is very vulnerable to bacterial infections?
cheers
