Hypancistrus sp. L129 or not?

Post by AleGer »

Please help to ID fish #1 and #2. They both came an year ago as L340, but as I can see they aren't.

Image
I think #2 is Hypancistrus debilittera (L129). And #1 also look like L129. But they are quite different as we can see on the photo.
I though that #1 could be Hypancistrus furunculus (L199), but the stripes are too narrow to be L199.
So is there any suggestions?

I'd say L129 - primarily based on the fact that almost all fish with those colours and that region are L129, no matter what name it gets sold as.

But this two fish has quite different pattern. Also #1 has clearly defined "E" letter on the head, and #2 doesn't.
So can two different exemplars Hypancistrus debilittera has clearly and badly defined "E" letter on the head?

L129 can show a great variation of pattern, some could even be almost all brown with little lines

if you had another pictures of the one on the right, especially from upper

But still it is no L199

Could evetually be L340, but would need to confirm it...

But I still believe it is L129

imo, i would still say L-129. The head seems less, well, large, than that of L-340.

the fish looks young and quite small...
It is why I suspect it can be a L340, also the fact the fish looks rather flat.
I think it could be a potential female
