Synopsis by Shane Linder
Maurice Kottelat and Ng Heok Hee have described a second species of Belodontichthys. Belodontichthys trucatus is found in Indochina while the second species, B. dinema, is found in Borneo, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula. The holotype for the new species was collected in Thailand and measures 170.2 mm. B. truncatus occurs in the Chao Phraya and Mekong River drainages of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. In the wild the fish is a predator and its diet consists mainly of cyprinids. A color picture of the new species appears in the description.
