Science News: Pimelodidae - Rhamdella aymarae

Post by Silurus »

Synopsis by Erwin Schraml

A recent paper in the Ichthyological Explorations of Freshwaters journal describes a new pimelodid of the genus Rhamdella from northern Argentina. A black and white picture of the preserved holotype in the description gives us an impression of the species. The fish's coloration is only described for specimens preserved in alcohol , and from this description, it does not sound like this species will become a popular aquarium fish. The largest specimen collected was 188 mm (SL) long.

It should also be noted that although the journal is dated 1999, the fish should be considered as being described in the year 2000.
