Science News: Loricariidae - Lasiancistrus

The authors describe the following species:

Lasiancistrus anthrax: Rio Orinoco backwaters, Amazonas State, Venezuela. Also known in the Rios Caura and Aro of Bolivar State. This species is black with white spots and has been introduced into the hobby as L235.

Lasiancistrus dumus: Rio Orinoco backwaters, Amazonas State, Venezuela. The fish has a light body colouring with dark spots with light orange spots on the tips of the dorsal and caudal fins.

Lasiancistrus nicoi: Rio Manipitare (Rio Siapa drainage), Amazonas State, Venezuela. The body is black with white spots and a white band in the caudal fin.

Lasiancistrus tigris: Rio Orinoco backwaters, Amazonas State, Venezuela. A Lasiancistrus species with numerous black bars on the head and body (like tiger stripes). It is found in the Rios Orinoco and Ventuari.

Beautiful photos are provided in the paper of all the new species.
