Science News: Callichthyidae - Corydoras sipaliwini

Post by Silurus »

Synopsis by Erwin Schraml

I just have received the new issue of the German aquarium journal "DATZ" (2/2000). Within is an article of Isaäc Isbrücker, who is revalidating the name Corydoras sipaliwini Hoedeman, 1965 (originally described as a subspecies of C. punctatus from Surinam, Sipaliwini river). This species was misidentified in 1967 by Nijssen & Isbrücker as Corydoras bondi. Since that time everybody followed their arguments, and the species we know in our aquariums as C. bondi bondi should now to be called C. sipaliwini. The real C. bondi Gosline, 1940 from Venezuela has probably not yet been introduced to the hobby, but is a valid species.
