"White" coloured L201

G'day All,

I have an unusually coloured L201 which I bred. He is a few months old now and has not lost the colouration or rather gained the normal L201 colouration. Can anyone shed light on what he/she may be? Many thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like you have an amelanistic form of L201 - same genetic defect [1] as

Ancistrus sp(L144)

.

[1] Ok, so technically it may be any number of genetic defects that produce the lack of colour. I'm calling it "same" because it is looking the same, not because I know (or even suspect) that the same genes are actually involved.

It looks like an albino to me - by the way the light is reflecting off the eyes. Either way - it's a very valuable fish and definitely worth crossing to a regular and then back again to produce more. Too bad you're on another continent so I can't buy some of your eventual fry!

CAnt really tell the colour of the eye properly, on the second pic it looks like a red but the third shows a black. But an albino/amelanistic version of L201 is still really cool.

If it's got red eyes, then it's an albino form.

Thanks Mats i'll have to look at submitting it to Jools if I can get any good pics. As you can see when stressed it goes a little greyish in colour as can be seen by the latest two photos. Not sure what it means but it was a surprise to see this little one emerge from the cave.
