Kottelat & Lim have determined that a large Hemibagrus with a black-edged caudal fin commonly found in Java, Sumatra, Borneo, and the Malay Peninsula is in fact a valid species. This species had been confused with Hemibagrus nemurus. This fish reaches a standard length of 350 mm (just under 14 inches). While H. nemurus is found in a variety of habitats, it appears that H. hoevenii is restricted to larger rivers
