HELP: Sick Brachyplatystoma tigrinum

Post by idunno »

Hi all,

My tigrinus about 20-25cm has pimple like growths (reddish and white) on it's body and lower jaw. The one on lower jaw is quite big.
The fish was initially injured by other tank mates (torn fins and cut barbels/whishers) and I seperated it in a hospital tank. I treated with melafix and some salts. The wound has healed except the one on its lower jaw that developed like pimple/tumor?

It seems now has spread, more growths on it's lower jaw and some white pimples on its body. I suspect it's some kind of parasite or worm.

Please advise what treatment I should give. Thanks.

I noticed in the above pic, inside the upper jaw is red too, looks like bleeding?

Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't reply immediately, as I didn't know what to say. I still don't know what to say.

What is the fish doing now? Is it better, worse, the same?

I'd suggest you talk to a fish-friendly veterinarian or some such. You may want to take a biopsy to see what the growths are - if it's parasistes or perhaps more like a wart (viral growth).

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if I can find fish friendly vet. They're as rare as hen's teeth.
It's bad isn't it? My fear is it's viral infection which has no medicine.
The growth is getting worse. I'm distressed because of it. It's really my favorite fish.
I'm also concerned about the bleeding in the top jaw. It's still bleeding.

There was a post by someone in the Loricariidae section recently
http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... =5&t=26581

The poster in that thread seems to know of a fish-friendly vet.

As we do not know what it is, it's just guess-work as to what can be done, how it should be done, and what the possible outcomes are.

I'm no expert but I wouldn't rule out bacterial septicemia.
Please note, if it is, YOU can catch it.

One more bucket of water and the farce is complete.
