Post by Silurus »

Synopsis by Shane Linder

This very interesting paper really increases the size of this Asian catfish family. The paper considers reviews all of the Amblyceps from the Mekong, Chao Phraya, Mae Khlong, Salween, and Irrawaddy basins of the Malay peninsula. A. caecutiens and A. murraystuarti are considered distinct from A. mangois. Also described are the following new species: A. foratum, A. mucronatum, A. platycephalus, A. serratum, and A. variegatum.

Nice black and white photos of all seven species are included as well as a map to show distribution. Most importantly, habitat information is noted for all of the new species.
