Science News: Akysidae - Akysis of Myanmar

Post by Silurus »

Synopsis by Shane Linder

In this paper, Ng Heok Hee redescribes the two known species of Akysis known from Myanmar (Burma). The paper contains a discussion of the Myanmar species relationship with the known species from Indochina. The two known species from Myanmar are Akysis pictus Gunther, 1883 from southern Myanmar and A. prashadi Hora, 1936 known from Indawgyi Lake and the northern part of the Ayeyarwaddy drainage. Akysis prashadi is fairly large, for an akysid, reaching 60 mm SL.
