RIP Michael Jackson (50)...

Post by DutchFry »

Last night the King of Pop died.

some say it was suicide, others say heart attack. i am leaning to the former though.

I am a big fan of Michael Jackson's music. he really was an icon for my generation and I still listen to his music from time to time. He was 'a little weird' in his last years, that's sad, but he still is a great performer and he will be missed....

RIP Michael

As we now know that he died from a heart attack.

He will be greatly missed but his music will always be around, thats what needs to be kept in mind.

I grew up to his music and listen to it today.

RIP

In terms of music, the Jackson 5 & his earlier stuff was fantastic pop. Personally the more recent stuff IMHO did not continue with the high standards he set himself.

In more widespread terms, he brought hapiness to millions, which can only be a good thing.

ahhh

the good ol' tradition of censorship is at it again

to the one who did this nefarious deed I ask: what's it like to live with your head crammed in a box?
denial is not a river in Egypt.

here's a little link wich hopefully teaches you a thing or two
but alas, it's highly unlikely to happen. because to be able to learn one needs to have both courage and an open mind as well as the nerve to look thruthfully at the world.

but I quote from it, and it's so true:
I know It’s socially verboten to speak ill of the dead, but I think one should remain truthful in all situations.
to wich I agree at ALL times on ALL occasions.

You have misinterpreted the actions taken Sid. It has nothing to do with lies, censorship, or political correctness. I did not modify the thread, but the jokes expressed, in my opinion, were simply not appropriate for a site that aims to be both educational and open to the participation of all ages.

M.J is a huge loss to millions of people so my thoughts go out to them. The man had the moves!

My feelings are more for Farrah Fawcett as well. She did a lot as an angel to help little girls like me feel like it was okay to do 'guy things' and it became cool to have big hair. RIP, Farrah :(

Nice thread

The posts were removed (actually most of yours made good points but then your history of going close to the line and sometimes crossing it kicked in) but I can't put them back easily. They led to adult humour being posted that was beyond what I am comfortable on this site. The "straw that broke the camels back" was a post by zenyfish and they have been warned appropriately.

There are lots of kids that use this site (I know this as they have to get parental permission and send me a form as per the legislation) and having adult, sexual themed, jokes on this site is not what I will allow.

As an aside, if unchecked, it would also block use of the site by so-called "netnanny" software that senses such things and so a whole bunch of kids might miss out on the site as a whole. That's terrible.

So, talk ill of the dead by all means, but keep it within the kind of conversational tone you would use if there were younger children in the room.

Too bad I did not see all the postings before they were remouved, as I like hard humor, the harder the funnier

However, I did not post anything here myself, as we Dutch people are a bit infamous for our rudeness. As this forum is found world wide, I thought I better keep it clean

But, MJ, however good a musician he was once, was a joke himself the last 15 years or so

Hi
I would just like to say I am not really for or against the death of MJ but IMO I feel that rather than removing the posts they could have been moved to another thread so people have the choice.I think people have their own opinions and suppressing them will only cause trouble everybody needs to find closure to something that has happened and has affected them in one way or another.

I think you've missed the point. It's not about suppressing opinions, it's about removing inappropriate posts. Do you really think a 12 year old should be able to read about sexual acts involving children on PlanetCatfish? A removed post had a joke containing this content...

This was a nice thread and a nice gesture AND it's a big worldwide conversation at the moment so very relevant for Speak Easy.

The odd thing is that I thought he died a few years ago, after the second trial. That is what I get for paying attention to celebrities.

I agree with what Jools has done, having post with sexual nature is wrong for kids to see and maybe hard for parents to explain the meaning of the 'joke'.

The problem I'm seeing is people wanting to joke about someone dying, put it on the other foot, what if it was a family memeber of yours? Jokes will always be around about a famous person dying, that is part of life. The man has been dead for a few days. He was a strange person, given but he was a perfomer and a fantastic one at that!!

Just rememeber him for the enteraining music and dances that he gave to us all.

Here I disagree

MJ was more than a performer, he was a pervert as wel

And being dead does, in my book, not mend that.

Should we only rememeber the good side of MJ, I think we would do wrong. Wrong to his victims and wrong to all other victims of perverts like him

Where's the proof that he was a pervert and I'll agree with you.

He was taken through court for with people claiming that he molestered them. Ok a documentry was made about this and yes as said before he was strange but a good entertainer.

so Bas Pel you provide me with proof of him being a pervert and like I said I will agree with you but please pm me with the proof, as quite right with what Jools has done, children see this forum.

I did not grow up listening to his music, I probably heard only 4 of his songs before he died. But thanks to the numerous tributes and whatnots, I had the privilege to hear the rest of his music. Although I grew up knowing of his "wacko jack-o" personality and also his accusation as a pedophile, I still acknowledge his musical genius. Besides, both of the charges were dropped..and in my opinion, a man is innocent until proven guilty...
