Worm nuisance

Hi,

A 8" royal (L027c) I bought about a month ago have not been eating well. It's poo is transparent and long. But it does not have sunken belly or eyes.

Recently, I noticed 2 worms stucked to the teeth area. I manaqed to grab the thing out with a pincer. Today, I discovered another pc again and again grabbed it out using a pincer.

The worm is light brownish about 4 mm long. One end of it is able to suck itself onto the host and the other end is quite mobile.

What worm is this? How can I get rid of the worms? Since the worm was removed earlier and yet a 3rd pc was found. Did the 3rd pc crawl it's way out of the fish?

How do I get rid of the worms? Will salt bath help?

Anyone who have any info, pls help.

salt bath is very dangerous with plecs, for they are sensitive to it! Try to desolve it in very hot water and place it to the tank.. U could also deworm ur panaque.. cuz according to u it has white poo.. It has internal parasite this is the cause why it aint eating well.. goodluck!

Medicated food Tablets are very good for hitting just internal parasites.
But heâ??s not eating well so maybe that wont work.

Sounds like a leech to me.

Levismole/levacide should do the trick

Sure looks like some kind of leech to me too.

Know what, on closer examination, I noticed more of those disgusting worms around the teeth area again. This time the worms are about 2mm size. Likewise as before, I used a pincer to remove all that my naked eye can see. Some of it is too small to remove. I then smeared a pinch of salt around the teeth area to dislodge the worms. I removed total about 8 pcs this time round! I then returned the fish to its quarantine tank. Now, the teeth area is really clean and the fish looks OK.

I'm still wondering where the worms came from? Maybe, it's stuck around the teeth area since the day I bought the fish about a month ago. I'm worried it crawl out from within the fish or from the gills. What do you think?

I placed the removed worms in a small container and added a little salt. Within a minute, all the worms started to 'curl up" and died.

I think there may be more worms lurking. My next intended course of action will be to give the fish a salt bath. What do you people think? What is the correct dosage for a salt bath?

I need help urgently. Thank you.
