Just got 3 new chaetostoma to replace the one that has sadly vanished after almost a year . I am certain I have 2 different kinds- and THINK I have L187 sp (2) and L187b. Unfortunately I seem to not be able to get a clear picture of them Or perhaps I am just not good enough with cameras (OK, I know this ). any tips for positively IDing them? Am thinking when I am ready to take them out of quarantine I will put them in a container and try to get snaps of them then, but until then... Are these two commonly imported versions?
The two I think are sp (2) look a lot like the pics on cat e-log but the spots seem to be a bit smaller. (they are both ~2")
The one I think is L187b looks just like it except it doesn't have the yellowish tinge some of the pics show. (he is also ~2")
I have only had them a few days and they are still settling in. Hoping to have an uneventful quarantine!.

Re: tips to ID chaetostoma
It sounds like you have identified the fish correctly.
L187b doesn't always have a yellowish tinge (in fact, my picture of this species in the Cat-eLog is too yellow because of lighting).
