Daruma?

Hello!
New to the forums, just need an id on this fish.

It was sold as a "Daruma Pleco" (I'm in Japan and we often have strange names for common fish)
It is about 5cm right now.


I would like to know the maximum size and any individual needs/habbits of this catfish.

Is it quite flat, or is that just the angle of it? There are fewer "flat" plecos than others, so it would be a key. I'm sorry, I'm not able to directly identify it.

Google certainly seems to agree that Daruma pleco is a Parancistrus species.

..sorry to be the unnerving nitpicker, but I´m not convinced about the L 332 identification. L 332 in that small a size should show noticeable white margins at caudal as well as dorsal fin. Admittedly, these fins are not readily visible. So, it might well be L 332. If it does not show these margins, I´d put my vote on Parancistrus aurantiacus (or what is identified as such right now).

Hey Sandor - i thought possibly L332 as i couldn't see the caudal or dorsal clearly enough & the body is more uniform brown as opposed to the mottling i've seen on most aurantiacus, i'm probably wrong but at least we have got a good discussion going which will result in the ID i'm sure, that's what the original post was for - good work!

Right now it is hard to get a better photo as the little fella is still a little nervey and is hiding in the folliage and bogwood in the tank.

To answer some of the posts here, the body isn't quite as flat as it looks in that photo.
There was a mention of white margins? There is no white on this fish.
The coloring is hard to describe, but it is a kind of yellowish/blackish/brown. LOL I know that sounds odd, but thats the best way to describe it!

So I am to assume it is either a L056 or an L332?
Sorry I am a bit of a no0b here, are these numbers instead of common names? Is there a common name?

L-numbers are a form of common names - a bit more specific than the common names, as the common names are often confusing (e.g. Clown Pleco is used for at least two quite different species).
