Dwarf Electric Catfish?
Hi.
I was looking up Electric Catfishes on Google (I have read about them in books and saw one in a pet store...and I wanted to know how they produced electricity. Haha. I was really bored) and I found an article on them that claimed there were Dwarf Electric Catfish, which only grew six inches instead of 31 inches that the "normal" ones do. I couldn't find any more references to Dwarf ones in any books or other sites. I was wondering if Dwarf Electric Cats do indeed exist.
Oh yeah, this is my first post too. So hello and stuff.

Yes they do. Dwarf electric cats are in the genus Paradoxoglanis.

Hi Kittfeeche and welcome to Planet Catfish
That sounds very cool. I'll have to read up on these guys - didn't know dwarfs existed either.
Are you considering buying one of them?

Racing, shoes and fish. Nothing else matters. Oh, and bacon.

Re: Dwarf Electric Catfish?
Hi, thanks for the information.
I might get one now that I know there are dwarves - I have always wanted one, but with their eventual size and cost and everything, I wasn't sure if I could have one at the moment (my landlord hates my pets now as it is and I'm not sure how she would react to it. Lol) but a Dwarf Electric sounds much more likely.

Welcome to Planet Catfish!
I don't think i've ever seen, or heard of, Paradoxoglanis being imported - i may be wrong but i think you'll find it tough to find one

Thanks.
Oh, that's a pity. That's probably why there's not much info about them on the web. I will still look for one, however.

Re: Dwarf Electric Catfish?
I think these would be a cool little item myself but I do not want to be the one trying to collect them in the wild...there is a good chance one would be dodging bullets instead of catching fish, if I am thinking the right area.

Indeed yes - there is a lot of trouble in quite a few african countries.....Birger wrote:I think these would be a cool little item myself but I do not want to be the one trying to collect them in the wild...there is a good chance one would be dodging bullets instead of catching fish, if I am thinking the right area.

Re: Dwarf Electric Catfish?
I wonder why these aren't yet in the catelog.....
there are plenty species in there without anypicture, so that won't be the issue

Re: Dwarf Electric Catfish?
Jools has added L-numbers and such without pictures, or other situations when filling in the blanks in a genus, but I think the general rule is still: If it hasn't got a picture, no new entry in teh Cat-eLog.sidguppy wrote:I wonder why these aren't yet in the catelog.....

Re: Dwarf Electric Catfish?
Some, like have a link somewhere, in this case fishbase which has Seeger's picture of the real thing but as of yet we have no picture for the Cat-eLog.

In that case, if anyone feels that they can approach the copyright owner of the photo and kindly ask if it can be used for PlanetCatfish. If there is a positive reply forward that to Jools along with either a copy of the photo [preferred] or a link to the photo online [which should be free of any other sites information, unless it's part of the original picture itself].Birger wrote:Some, like have a link somewhere, in this case fishbase which has Seeger's picture of the real thing but as of yet we have no picture for the Cat-eLog.
