Corydoras nanus?
Corydoras nanus?
Bought these at LFS. They had them listed as Corydoras minimus. I don't think there is such a cory. Looks like it may be Corydoras nanus but I'm not too sure. They are 2.5cm long. Any ideas?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Corydoras nanus?
Corydoras napoensis. Maybe C. bilineatus, but not C. nanus. They are from an area where there's no collection/export and as far as I know they have not been seen in the hobby for many years.

They look like nanus.I dont agree with you "kim m".Because in the list has reached us from czech republic, there are corydoras nanus. Also, the name of nanus can be mentioned "mini cory".So the fishsaler could sold this cory as C.minimus.
Forever cory!!

Re: Corydoras nanus?
It's OK
I guess the only way to get C. nanus is to go and collect it yourself. Hopefully a hobbyist like us will go and do that and spread them in the hobby. This has happened with some very nice species lately (bosemani, baderi, etc.).
C. napoensis and bilineatus is almost impossible to tell apart, but bilineatus is from Bolivia and there are almost no exports from there either. Where the Czechs got their fish from in the first place is hard to tell, but C. napoensis is exported out of Peru in large numbers.

Re: Corydoras nanus?
Thanks for the help. After looking at the corys you have suggested I'm going back and forth between C. bilineatus and C. napoensis.
They sure look like this bilineatus.

Re: Corydoras nanus?
In spite of the heavy line pattern, the last picture is almost certainly C. napoensis from Peru, as against C. bilineatus from Bolivia. Having said that C. napoensis can be quite variable, which often gives cause for debate.
