Hi,

what is the size of the corys ?!
It looks to me more like ordinary C. aeneus (body shape and size is different).

However, officially they are C. aeneus (as C. venezuelanus is still considered as a synonym of C. aeneus and not yet as a species of its own right as it should be).

Cheers,

The Cat-eLog

and Catalog of Fishes

both list C. venezuelanus as a valid species.

I imagine Fishbase is still catching up.

Nope.

"venezuelanus, Corydoras Ihering 1911:383 [Revista do Museo São Paulo v. 8 (1910); ref. 14822] Río Cabriales, Valencia, State of Carabobo, Venezuela. Lectotype: MZUSP [ex DZSASP] 146. Paralectotypes: MZUSP [ex DZSASP] 5398 (1), MZUSP [ex DZSASP] 5399 (1). Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:112 [ref. 29155]. Lectotype designated by Britski 1969:208 [ref. 12401]. •Synonym of Corydoras aeneus (Gill 1858) -- (Nijssen & Isbrücker 1980:207 [ref. 6910], Isbrücker 2001:237 [ref. 26805], Reis in Reis et al. 2003:294 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:112 [ref. 29155]). Current status: Corydoras aeneus (Gill 1858) Callichthyidae: Corydoradinae."

It'd be nice if someone would do a revision of the aeneus complex and give individual status to the obviously different species lumped in it, but as of right now they're all officially aeneus.

Hi,

if I am informed rightly Joachim Knaack is working on a revision of the aeneus complex.

I agree with Karsten. They are something from the aeneus complex, but I don't think they are venezuelanus. Their body is too elongated, they are too light (though this might be because they are new), and the "glowing" orange stripe on the shoulder (best seen on the fish in front in pic #9) is also wrong.

Hi. I agree that they are a form of C. aeneus. Here is C. venezuelanus, for comparison. - Frank

P.S. A highly debatable topic of discussion.

Corydoras eques?

I have just got onto the internet and would appreciate it if someone reading this could give me some advice on how to use these message boards and how to upload pictures? I have a tank of arounf 30 gallons (140 litres) in which I have around 80 corydoras of many different species (my overpopulated tank has three fluval filters and i give it 25 litre water changes every 10 - 14 days). I have taken many photos with my little point and shoot digital camera and most are OK except for the bleached eyes.
I've been into tropical fish for a few years now and to me nothing beats keeping Corys ( I have a few of the common tetras too and an Ancistrus (unknown species)) I have a few issues to do with my fish that i'd like talk about in seperate topics and hopefully get some feedback from all you experts out there .... so a reply to my earlier question would be great.

Definately not C. venezuelanus (valid or not) but C. aeneus.
