Re: Help sexing these L200
hi,
i guess 6 could be a female...a bit larger in the belly part in the back...but sidefins look quite massive wich should be male then.

Re: Help sexing these L200
Hi! Thanks!
So to sum up:
Possible females:
2,3,5,6,8 (6 & 8 is a bit unsure).
Possible males:
1,4,7 (perhaps 6 is a male).
3, 5, 6, 8 seemes to be the most unsure fishes.
Any one more that has an opinon about these fishes?
Cristoffer

4 & 8 boys, the rest females? only for me because 4 & 8 's heads seem differently shaped, longer, possible male? I tried to do it by their spots as referenced on this thread, http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm. ... cle_id=151 and I couldn't , they all looked bright.

Re: Help sexing these L200
Are these fish newly bought?
How large are they?
The shape of the head differs depending on how the fish grasps the bottom of the holding tank. This makes it difficult.
My suggestions are:
1 male
2 female
3 can`t say
4 male
5 female
6 female
7 male
8 can`t say
I recently saw a program on discovery(or similar channel) about a new hand-held ultrasound device that paranoid people can use to check lumps and cysts for possible cancer on themselves. My first thought was that this might be an excellent device to sex catfish.

ty I did not know this. Makes perfect sense. The shape of the head differs depending on how the fish grasps the bottom of the holding tank. This makes it difficult.

Hi!
Unfortunately, they where newly bough. I didn't know this at first. The have been in captivity for 3 weeks only.
The photos where taken with a mobile phone. In 4 weeks I will take new photos as they are being moved into another tank.
I will put up better photos then. But there are good news that I got both sexes!
If we could sex fishes some other way, it would be grat... but it would take away a bit of the fun!
Thanks!
Cristoffer

Re: Help sexing these L200
Well.. It would be nice to be able to buy a single adult pair instead of buying a large group to be sure to get both sexes. Especially with expensive large size plecos like the species we likeCristoffer Forssander wrote: If we could sex fishes some other way, it would be grat... but it would take away a bit of the fun!
The technology is there, but it will be very expensive the first few years.
Here is a USB2 plug and play device especially designed to scan small details:

I would assume this device could be used to sex large plecos like Pseudacantichus.
