P. pardalis or P. disjunctivus ??

Post by SpunkyTheMonkey »

4 euros from lfs, about 7cm long, just labled πλακοστομος (plakostomos as they call them here), has 10 or 11 dorsal rays afaict, best dorsal shot i've gotten so far is here but it's not a great pic. answers to the name "toothbrush" (never let toddlers name your fish).

looks like a common plec to me but it's difficult for a noob like me to be sure...

I'd go for Common P. pardalis - it may be P. disjunctivus - the only difference is in the pattern on the belly.

ok now i'm confused...i've got a belly shot but i'm still not sure...it looks like P. disjunctivus to me but his markings are still quite washed out (the photo is only from day 2 after he came home from lfs) and i'm not sure if i'm just looking at faded spots from his stress coloration. opinions? do i just need to wait and see what he looks like in a few days?

link to pic here if the hot-link breaks again.

My guess is that it's too young to tell - but if I'm wrong, I'd go with P. isjunctivus.
