Otos
I wanted otos but don't have a clue on how to take care of them with a 29 galon a BN pleco and some tetras with alot of plants.I know how to pick and weed out a good oto and feed it but it needs algae and I don't think my oto would get along with a pleco if they are both new to a tank.how do I take care of a coulpe if I don't have algae on my tank. Will it grow good on some wood? Please help. I need advice.

Re: Otos
A good trick is to gt a small tank or goldfish bowl & put it on a window ledge. Fill it with tank water & put a couple of smooth pebbles in.Within a few days these should have algae on them & then be transferred to your fishtank for oto's to eat, keep this going & you have a source of algae readily available - you can also feed algae tabs, cucumber, spinach, lettuce, peas, green beans etc for herbivorous fish

Re: Otos
Didn't Richard answer exactly that? The water doesn't have to be particularly warm - and just take the stones with algae and place them in the aquarium.hotsauce4887 wrote:But how do I grow algae warm water or cool water and how to put it in the aquarium

Re: Otos
i have had an otocinclus for about 2 years and it is about 2 in long and i just got 3 almost 1 in otos of the same species(i think) and i have had no prob with feeding the big one even without algae and without feeding green foods. but i started putting cucumber in the tank so that the small one can eat. and i was curious if any one knew how to breed them?

They're not that hard to take care of. Pretty much all I do is drop in an algae or sinking wafer or two ever night. They magically devour it by morning.

Re: Otos
I didn't before I got a group of them, but now I love the little guys. That's really saying something since I tend to favor the monsterous fish and reptiles. I can't keep anything bigger than a 10 gallon tank in my dorm room thoughotoguppylover wrote:so u love oto too?
