Manaus 2003: wrap up

Post by Silurus »

Well,

Thirty-something hours after I left Manaus, I'm back in Michigan (no thanks to Varig, which I will not recommend to anyone wanting to fly to or within Brazil). The meeting yielded a lot for me. There were more new Hemipsilichthys than you can shake a stick at, I gave my talk successfully (I didn't win the student award, but I wasn't expecting to, anyway), and I met lots of catfish people, some with the possibility of new collaborative projects (a molecular phylogeny of the Mochokidae with John Friel being one).
The meeting wasn't perfect in a number of ways, but I was sure glad I went. Hoped that my postings from there kept everyone here entertained and informed.
Now, if I can only find the time to upload the pics I took at the fish market...

Well, they went bankrupt the first or second day of the meeting and caused a lot of the attendees to miss their connections and to stay at least an extra day in Manaus/Miami. Lots of people were cussing at Varig there...

Well, If they just went bankrupt, I guess it wouldn't help them anything if you recomended the airline to anyone ;)
