Fin Rot and/or Stress
Hi folks,
As you might recall, within these last 3 weeks I added 3 ancistrus cirrhosus and a young angelfish (who appear to be fine) to my 29 Gal tank with older angel (2 yr old). Perhaps introducing these guys and the stress involved; as well as the previous few months (Nov/Dec)of tank changes offered to assist in the nursing of a common pleco (Plecie; died Dec 19) such as plants, wood, food, medication (metronidazole and later erythromycin) has overwhelmed the older angel.
My question is, - Shall I do another treatment of erythromycin for fin rot? The previous one was done mid December for Plecie, in the 29 tank. I really hate to move older angel to 10 gal hospital tank and would almost prefer to move all the others instead. ALSO: Would you suggest a different med?
The tank is stable again at 77 deg temp, and 7.2 pH. There are some plants (young) and driftwood. I do at least weekly water changes (usually 20-25%). These last 5 days, the two angels have had some dominance issues -- right now it seems the little one has the upper hand but they seem fairly mellow. I have kept watch trying to make sure there was no obvious wounds to either one, and I may end up taking to take it back to LFS.
Any advice appreciated. The little ancistrus seem happy.
Thanks,
Maurina

I, personally, would not medicate unless you see signs of illness.

MatsP,
Hi - thanks, yes- there is signs of fin rot on the pectoral fin. Angel is not using her right pectoral fin per usual (noticed last night), and there is visible white fuzz and some erosion on both fins. Angel was not eating as much as usual as of yesterday, also. The behavior hasn't changed much, but has changed a bit. She is much heavier because of all the diet changes these recent months have precipitated, too. (Plecie's cucumbers and extra feedings)--

Re: Fin Rot and/or Stress
Hi again,
I went to LFS and pondered which fin rot med to use. Hoping to get something not too strong, yet good for target. Came home with something that contains 3 mg Victoria Green B and 30 mg of Acriflavine - per packet per dosage per 10 gal. Etc.
Will these ingredients be alright for the BN juveniles to be subjected to? Both angels now appear to have this problem, -eroding dorsal fins with some white fuzz starting to show.
Thanks so much. I'm quite concerned. I have prepped tank but haven't yet dosed.
