New here..

Post by Arherp »

Hey, I am Tim and I recently joined this site. I am a reptile and fish enthusiast, with two websites, freewebs.com/stonecoldherps and freewebs.com/thinkgreenherps. I have Iridescent sharks, channel cats, cories, bullheads, red-tail cats, carp, and various other large cat species, however, most of mine are juviniles right now. I have 75, 55, 29, 25, 20, and 38 gallon tanks. I look forward to becoming a regular on this website.

There are some posts from people with red-tails and other large cats, and I think there are several former owners of these fish.

Unfortunately, most people are not equipped to take care of a fish that can live for 50 or more years and that grows to over 5 feet in nature. But that's unfortunately not said when they are 4" long in a fish-shop and looking very cute.

There is a discussion ongoing in the "Other South American Catfish" about building a 40000 gallon pond - you may want to start studying that, so that you are prepared [but for a single red-tail, a 10 x 10 x 20 ft, 14000 gallon pond will be sufficient, as long as you have a large enough filtration system to cope with the ammonia peak when you feed it once a week or so].

I am well- equipped, In a few years I am going to go to auburn university and (hopefully) purchase a house that has a pre- existing in-ground pool. It wont take too much to convert it...

BTW, I had to order my RTC, my LFS doesn't carry them. I was well aware of their requirements before purchase.

Thanks. As you all know it is easy to get a lot of fish fast. The hobby is a bottomless pit at times...
