ID my 'yellow syno's' please
I picked these guys up a while back. They were being sold as 'yellow syno's' They are about 5 1/2" and don't appear to be growing larger. These are the best pics I've been able to get so far. I'd really like to know what they are!
Thanks in advance!

Possibly S. Nigrita max size of 17cm most spp growth rates decrease as they near there maximum length
An American monkey, after getting drunk on brandy, would never touch it again, and thus is much wiser than most men.

Not to disagree as I am really not an expert by any stretch, but they really look exactly like the first picture in this thread to me:

Also look very much like this:

Let me know what you guys think, I'll go try to catch one for a few close ups.

And a few more. Let me know if there is a specific angle that would be helpful.

Re: ID my 'yellow syno's' please
I can see enough to say these are NOT nigrita. They do look to be part of the waterloti complex - ie perhaps as undescribed species very close to waterloti, or a regional variation of it.

I was thinking the same
the roubded caudal lobes are also typical.
on one pic I was thinking "schoutedeni"......

I would say waterloti too. At one time i had 17 waterloti and they had many kind of pattern. And until from first pic i have thought about waterloti, shape of dorsal fin, adipose, pattern of caudal/dorsal and barbels match with my waterloti. In maxillary barbels it has the same kind of membrane too.
Here is one pic of three different pattern waterloti:

For schoutedeni this one has too short barbels and with schoutedeni there is no membrane at maxillary barberls.Chrysichthys wrote:I'm afraid I'm going to muddy the water by suggesting ; have a look at that species.

Re: ID my 'yellow syno's' please
Hmmm - can't see it myself - waterloti or closely related undescribed sp. but not schoutedeni - mandibular barbels are not right - too short & skin flap present (v small at join with head tapering out quickly)Chrysichthys wrote:I'm afraid I'm going to muddy the water by suggesting ; have a look at that species.
Edit - Jippo - great minds think alike.....

If the barbels aren't right then I am most likely wrong.
