Plec ID......peckoltia ?????
Hi all,
I really suck at id in plecs.....
Recently bought these as L015 but looking at the pics on the catelog i'm not thinking they are...although as a said i suck at ids so they well could be. Will get other pics today if needed. From what i was told they are about 4yo, and about 10-11cm TL. And how do you sex these fellas?
this is the suspected male and possible female..

Re: Plec ID.
There are several species that look very similar to , e.g. .
For mature and well-fed specimens, a view from above (or bottom) would be the best way to tell males from females.

Despite the lack of Odontodes, I'd say it's likely that both of your fishes are males - I'm going by body shape alone, which unfortunately isn't a very good way to determine this - but I'd give it "75% certain" at this point in time. Feed them properly and see what they look like when they have grown a bit.

Re: Plec ID......peckoltia ?????
thanks for that mats, not quite what i wanted to hear but not unexpected either.
So still no real id, but that's cool, i'll try again later once they have grown a bit and are fed better.
Thanks.

Re: Plec ID......peckoltia ?????
The ID is or one of it's close relatives - the care and keeping should be the same.

The two have different head shapes and the former has a preopercular region that is medially wider than the postopercular region, and is threfore, without a doubt, a male. I might be wrong, but at least that's the way I see it.
