New species?
One of the traders here in Oz popped up a pic of this beauty asking what we though breeding pairs would be worth.
Anyone seen them before?
He said it was new and had no name yet although he suggested pleco d'oro

The picture appears to be nicked directly from the Cat-ELog.
It's reversed with a bit of cropping, but it's the same picture. You may want to remind your dealer that the images in the Cat-ELog are copyrighted to the original photographer. Unauthorized use is not permitted.

Re: New species?
It was nicked from the Pier Aquatics site I think. Anyway, the fish did not arrive in any numbers and I would not hold any hope of finding any for sale at present.

Re: New species?
And to answer your question!!
it only information given was it was imported from Peru...but like you can imagine with such beauty, the origin won't be known for sure in a longtime...buisness protection by the person who found it, I am sure he don't want anyother people to find, catch and sell these beauty...and as stated by Jools...unlikely these will hit the market in number anytime soon...
Cheers

Re: New species?
I remember when these pics first showed up. It's been a while so I can't really remember with certainty, but I think they came from Mortenthaler in Peru.

The sp(3) denotes it is an as yet un-named/described panaque. PC has designated it as sp(3) until such a time as an official ID has been documented.Alan wrote:Does Panaque sp(3) mean it's a hybrid or an as yet un-named/described panaque? And does anyone know what sort of length these would attain?

Wow what a fish, from the top it looks like parancistrus but the dentition is clearly panaque.
I think this would be big seller.

The photo against the black substrate shows a truly stunning fish. Much better than the newly added photos i think. Whether we see this available though.....

Re: New species?
The new and old pictures are all of the same individual fish, from Peru and apparently a very difficult fish to collect. It is a very nocturnal and to me looks to be very like a slightly bigger in terms of care and breeding at least.

Re: New species?
Hmmm, very interesting indeed, certainly food for thought on displaying this (& other fish), but then again very light or artificial coloured substrates seldom allow fish to settle & look their best.Jools wrote:The new and old pictures are all of the same individual fish, from Peru and apparently a very difficult fish to collect.
