As long as the shrimp sinks and doesn't get too carried away by current from filters etc, the pleco will find it and eat it. If there is much current, then some method of holding it in place may help the fish find it and stay with it, rather than trying to chase it around in the tank - particulary if there are crevices and cracks were the shrimp can get stuck - that would be bad for the water quality. As long as you take the shell off, it will be eaten quite quickly - not sure if they can chew through the shell or not.

Mussels I simply freeze until they open (just like boiling, the bad ones don't open), then just feed them on the half-shell.

oh, really? cause i was putting them in a pan with some water and heating them up till they popped open.

freezing sounds easier? so they can eat that raw also? I am a bit confused with the real seafood for my fish.

do you think i can get some suggestions on what fresh seafood and how to prepare or not prepare?

so far i have done shrimp and mussells and just forgot if i cooked the shrimp or not. But when I go the seafood counter i just look at it all and never know if i feed raw or what? I am not a big seafood person my self, except for fresh crab.

in the feeding pl*cos article it says they should be cooked.
White fish, mussels, shrimps/prawns, cockles. These types of foods should be cooked before feeding to remove undesirables and most are available pre-cooked and are easy to use. For instance mussels are also available tinned, which makes it an ideal food because it’s easily available.
I guess I am confused and would think fresh food would be good for them. But want to do it right. Are the fresh shrimp at the fish counter already cooked or raw?

I don't know but I have always just chopped them up and chucked them in as they are.

You can quickly cook things by steaming over a boiling kettle. I do that with whitefish for feeding my predatory cats, because the cooking makes it flake apart easily.

fresh shrimp from the counter I would suppose to be raw...I do know you can buy frozen shrimp either cooked or uncooked and they are always labeled as such.

Generally speaking on shrimp/prawns: Pink = cooked, grey = raw. I have seen tiger prawns for example in all four permutaitons of (frozen, fresh) and (cooked, raw).
