Can adult female bn's have a tiny row of small short bristles up the snout in a line? They are adults and have been the only pleco's in the tank [125 gal]. I have 2 more that were purchased at the same time that are kept in different tanks and they have huge bristles all over their heads and are quite longer than the others.
I've always heard that bristles on the forehead meant a definite sign of a male. These other two have me stumped however. Is it possible they could be females?

I have always read that females only get some bristles, maybe if any, along their lip, never up their nose.
I thought I had 3 girls and 2 boys and one of my girls developed bristles up the nose and is a boy.

Females can certainly have a small set of bristles around the lower part of the head (just above the mouth).
