Sexing L270 chocolate zebra

But the post it leads to about sexing the L270 I can't get to.

Does anyone know a reliable way of sexing the L270? I have a pair that are about 60mm long, and I'd like to know what I have.

Sexing them should be much the same as any other Hypancistrus. Thickened pectoral rays, wider heads, more odontodal growth on males. Thicker abdomen, more triangular heads, and a more curved pectoral shape on females. This question gets asked frequently. Maybe we all need to work together and make a sticky for this section with diagrams and pics or something...

That's a good idea - a sticky with general sexing for each type of catfish in each catagory with pics.

But the simple thing with your fish( as i know their age ) are at this stage they are a bit too young to sex 100%.

Mr pleco has a good way to sex , send him a pm.

Thanks firenzenz, I'll send him a PM and try to give it a go. I found the stuff on Shanes world which was pretty good, but I'm a bit scared to pick them up and hold them in case I hurt them. I guess it must be ok though, because I've seen lots of people doing it. Anything I should keep in mind when holding them?
