Re: Sexing my new L134 male or female
I have had about 9 spawns this year from my colony of six L134 and in my opinion, that female needs to join my group to liven up the party.
In all seriousness, it appears to be a very ripe female and I wish you success in getting yours to spawn.
They are a joy to raise because their fry are very easy to care for and grow faster than any other Pleco species i've been able to breed. It may take as little as 4 months for the juveniles to reach 3 to 4 cm in total length.

Re: Sexing my new L134 male or female
Hi,
..unfortunately, I´ll have to disagree with Larry and Cristoffer.
Looking at the third picture, I can clearly see the Odontodes covering the caudal peduncle. Based on that, I would identify that fish as a male.
Considering, additionally, the other pictures, I would tend to either an extremely fat fish (which L 134 appears to be prone to) or a bacterial infection. Since the "fatness" appears to be asymmetrically distributed, it appears to be more like a bacterial infection of the intestines.
Cheers, Sandor

Hi!
I had another look and I got a bit unsure. Perhaps Sandor is right... perhaps a sharper photo would be best.
Perhaps you can take the photo in a white box without the blue towel under...
Regards
Cristoffer

I agree with Sandor, it's a male with a bacterial infection. Separate him from the others in a new tank, keep the water fresh and use a temperature around 29 C and good circulation, medicate with Metronidazol (there are several brands on the market containing metronidazol) and no food at all until it looks normal...dont be afraid it will starve they can be without food for months if they not have been starved before.
