Ancistrus sp.SUPER-RED

Post by AleGer »

Does anyone know anything about this fish?

Is it a color variation of the common ancistrus?

Hi,

yup, it´s a relatively new "version" of the common Ancistrus. Bred from the calico(?) variety.

Cheers, Sandor

Hi,

might be the second fish in the thread you linked. I´m uncertain, because you can make the xanthoristic Ancistrus wrongly identified as L 144 in the hobby almost look like that with the "right" settings of you digital camera.

However, I´m dead sure about the fish pictured in the database of L-Welse.com:

That´s the real Ancistrus sp. "Super-Red". Everything else is fake! :D

Cheers, Sandor

I'm thinking normal albino common Ancistrus ("L144/L144a") raised on an astaxanthin-rich diet.

It might be possible to get red "L144" with the right diet, but Ancistrus spec. superrot is a genuinely red fish. It is a pretty recent form, so they're probably hard to get outside of Germany.

btw, "L144" is a xantho, not an albino ;)

Hi I breed these fish having obtained my originals from Germany. They breed true and are not colour fed L144,s. They do however through a normal coloured fry occasionally
