How many bristlenoses in a tank?

Post by harsmann »

How many bristlenoses can I keep in 140G tank?

It is a planted community tank with plenty of roots for hiding and I feed with zucchini and cory tablets (for corys really, but the bristlenoses eat them too).

I started with three: One female and two males. After a month they started breeding, and a few fry have escaped both hungry tankmates and my net (to the growout tank).

There is some fighting between the original three and I expect this to increase as fry survive and grow and breed... I don't want them to kill each other, so when must I remove the fry?

Thanks and regards,
Allan

I have probably three dozen in a 120 liter tank - I'm not saying this is ideal, but it's what happens when the grow in the tank they were born, and my tank may not be AS planted as yours, but it's got enough plants that I can't easily catch the babies (nor do I really have anywhere else to put them).

Thanks for your answer - sounds like I won't have to worry for a looong time.
