In my personal opinion, the only distinct difference between the different variations of and it's variants is the capture location, and I'm fairly convinced that the range of variations is nearly infinite - what I'm trying to say is that if you catch a fish halfway between the L27a capture location and the L27b capture location, it will look like something about half-way between the two (although of course it may be closer to one than the other).

If you know where your fish came from, then you should be able to determine which variant it is. If not, then we could possibly GUESS it's origin, but it would be a guess. From most aspects, it won't make any difference which variety you have.

AllI know about this fish is that it came from Brazil - and as it grew it darkened to look exactly like yours. I bought it as LDA63, but was later told that it was one of the 27's, but not xingu. Here is a picture of it as a baby:

I bet we have the same animal...so it's a 27 of some sort.

I'm not 100% sure that cichlidfinder´s Panaque is this but drgold's Panaque is, Jackster's seems to be the original P. nigrolineatus.

Not really, better if you take pictures from a little more distance when it's in the aquarium so we can see the overall look and the right colouration.
