Hello from Wisconsin

Post by nvcichlids »

Hello,
I am a college student in S.E. Wisconsin and have been keeping fish for many years (since I can remember.) I am currently trying to finish my SA catfish tank (20 gal L). I have bred a species of banjo catfish, common plecos, bumblebee catfish (SA type) and madtoms. My current catfish list consists of a small group of L201 plecos. I LOVE these little guys and cannot wait until I get fry from them.

Welcome!! I did my undergrad at UW-Milwaukee and I'm planning a return to Wisconsin when I finish up my PhD next year. From what I can gather, there are a handful of other pleco/catfish nuts in the state and a lot are members here.

Good luck with the L201's!

Thanks everyone for the nice welcome. I have a quick question for you guys. I cannot find this fish (it is posted under the wanted section too) on any order forms anywhere. I was wondering if it is a seasonal fish or if people just don't keep them that often? I really would love to get some, but seems that I missed out on the aquabid auction a few weeks ago and now cannot find them. The fish is the oil catfish (centromochlus perugiae.) Where do most of you end up getting your fish from??

Wildcaught fish is seasonal, and South American fish is normally caught when the rivers are at their lower level, which is towards the end of dry season. As rainy season only finished last month, WikiAnswers Amazon seasons. Although Centromochulus may have been bred in captivity, I don't believe that is done on a commercial basis.

Thanks for that info. I hope that I can find some soon. Went to my lfs and they said that they have rarely if ever seen them on the list. =(
