Looks like a good match to me, but I'm far from anywhere near an expert on this subject.

thank you for your help.
I would say it is different than Hypoptopoma sp(4), but of course they looks similar. But not the same.
Thank you

I have only seen Nannoptopoma sp. "Peru" dead, but in death they had the same colors as in life, just paler.

Especially the change from uniformly colored head to striped head seems to me to be unlikely to be due to stress; unless you know that this species can indeed change color like this I'd be more inclined to think this is a separate and new Nannoptopoma.

Jools' PC email is webmaster@planetcatfish.com

I agree with Mike on the stripes appearing on the head during stress. It seems strange that this could happen, so I also think it may be a new species.

I am pretty sure this is a stressed one of these: Nannoptopoma sp`peru`

Jools

Dear Jools,
I think you are wrong. The fish you are talking about it is VERY DIFFERENT COLORATION, also that fish comes from Rio Tigre at Iquitos.
The fish I posted it is surely a Nannoptopoma sp. but this one comes from Tarapoto place. VERY far away from Iquitos and it different geographical area. It is not stressed one, the fish always show that colour, even in the tanks of my friends in other countries.

Thanks

Yeah, well it wouldn't be the first time. Look forward to seeing the fish in aquarium stores to have a look at it. I still don't see much of a difference, and I don't think anyone can make a call on it until both (or one) of the species is described...

How do you mean different geography? Just that the places are far apart, or that they are different biotopes?

I think and agree with all of you thinking this is a "new species" of Nannoptopoma, I would treat it as "new" as long no one can prove it's anything else. Better to use another name in the trade then use the same as N. sp "peru" which just will confuse us.

Hi!!

I have seen alive this species since early last year... very thinny little guys, all I had seen were not exceeeding the 3cm TL!!!
A possible name for the Cat elog would be Nannoptopoma sp (Peru 2) or (white) as they are sold as this...

Well, I'll put it in as a new entry in the cat-elog. Nice to be wrong and get a new species out of it.

I quite favour Nannoptopoma sp. "Peru II" rather than Nannoptopoma sp. "white". Maybe Nannoptopoma "Peru white"... Decisions, decisions. What's it being exported as?

A friend of mine brought home some of them from one of his trips to Peru. Someone bid him a good price on all, so I didn`t get any. They are quite difficult to keep, as I`w heard from the one who bought them.
If I`m not wrong, they go by the name of Otocinclus "Pin" in Peru?
