Welcome to Planet Catfish.

Breeding Zebra plecos is something a lot of people want to do, and as long as you have a decent bank-account to get the breeding stock, it's certainly doable. But I would certainly start with something a bit less pricey, for two reasons:
1. Bringing up pleco fry requires a bit of skill - practice on something that is easy to breed and where you don't think "that's £50 down the drain" each time you have to pick up a dead one [hopefully that doesn't happen, but if it's going to happen, wouldn't you prefer if they are worth 50p, instead?].
2. Getting Zebra pleco's to spawn can be a bit tricky. Practicing on "getting them to spawn" on something less complicated can be a good starting point.

Good luck.

Ok, fair enough - good luck to your dad. Of course, my advice still holds for your dad: Start with something easy, before tackling the slightly more complicated and sensitive fish.

& if your dad is finding it tricky there's plenty of people in these forums who've been successful who can provide specific advice on how they did it
