Intresting, corydoras versus snails
Hello,
Maybe I have got an interesting story to tell.
At least, I found it pretty remarkable.
As you might know I started breeding corydoras. I now got at least 300 young ones in a tank, 40-40 cm. Water stands 15cm high. They are nearly 4 weeks old.
A week ago I put 2 snails ( pomacea bridgesii) in with the baby's to clean up all the leftovers of food.
Within 1 day both the snails died. I bought 2 more snails and first put them in with adult cory's. One in each tank, 35 and 60 liters. Here there was no problem. So I put the snails in with the baby's again. And ones more within a day they died.
Could it be that the baby corydoras ad more toxins into the water when threatend?
Has somebody experienced the same when putting snails with (young) corydoras?
I put another snail in a tank with 3 adult cory's yesterday. And it is still alive.
I would like to read your experiences.
Bye!! Jacqueline

Hi,
Waterparameters are perfect (the young corydoras are doing great).
PH 7,1 KH 3 NO2 0 temp 26 celcius.
I change the water twice a day for at least 50% and there is a filter in the tank.

Re: Intresting, corydoras versus snails
the temperature can be more important for the snails, usualy the medium temperature for them is 18-26 for sub-tropical kind but for the most tipical snail that we can find(tropical)the temperature have to be around 24 grades because can change the life sistem(example.18-20 grades around 4 years if life,28-29 grades 10 months max 1 year) but aniway i think that the problem for the snail is:
1) they can't find a lot micro-organism to eat.you have plant, bottom sand or stone and you give them food etc etc?
2)they don't have enough air betwen water and top(around 15 cm of empty space)and they drawning

What about nitrates?
I think there are too many of them for this small tank.
