Hey everyone

Post by joe.juice13 »

Just wanted to say hello to everyone on the site, and thanks to the moderators/organizers for putting a really successful and informative site together. And just was wanting to know if anyone had information on trustworthy online sources to find some of the more odd and rare cats.
Thanks,
Juice

Welcome to Planet Catfish.

Is there any particular information you are after?

Unfortunately, finding RELIABLE and USEFUL information is not always easy - I should know, as I'm constantly trying to find more info to update the Cat-eLog with.

Are there any specific species of odd or rare cats you're interested in?

I was actually referring to finding the catfish themselves, mostly places people have bought fish from and have had good experiences with, but if you have any good suggestions for finding info I'd take that too. So if anyone had a good experience purchasing a cat online let people know about it, that way you can hopefully benefit the person you bought from by promoting them. While youre at it, if you had any bad experiences let everyone know about that too. I think a good idea would be to list sources that you have bought cats from and then tell us what your experience with them was like, info on prices, fish health, selection, and how they worked with you, ect.
Thanks,

There are probably several good Web-sites to buy fish from, the problem is that different species or genus are available from different suppliers. Some specialize in for example plecos, others on Corys, others in Synos, and so on. So it would help a fair bit if you was more specific about what you are looking for.

I personally prefer to travel to the shop myself, but I do understand that in some place (such as the US) this is far from feasible (and it took me 8 months of working in London every day to get to the Wholesale Tropicals that is about 3 miles away).

Another problem with a thread on "I like this (web-)shop", is that there's usually SOMEONE who for one reason or other don't like (rightly or wrongly - it's very hard for us moderators to judge these things too) that particular web-shop - and these people are usually both more stubborn and more "loud" than those who like the same shop, so often it can lead to bad mood in the thread.

I've never purchased online so I'm not much help!

Are you aware of Aquabid?

Julie at Frybabies has some plecos for sale.

I've met her and would recommend her highly

I can also vouch for a friend here in Texas, Daves Rare Aquarium Fish

Thanks for the info everyone,
I actually work at a LFS in the US, but even our suppliers don't always have some of the oddballs that I've seen on the site, so just looking for more ways to collect some of the fish that I don't see around. And I can understand how a thread can turn bad in the way you described mats, so thanks anyways. I'll just have to keep my eyes out.
