Chatroom?

Post by slakey »

Hey I've been thinking would anyone be interested if this site/forum had a chatroom, where people could get quick answers if people we're in there to help at the time, instead of waiting in the forum for replies?

Also would be a nice way to get to know eachother.

I've seen these work on Reptile sites and forums and are mostly very popular all the time :)

Just a thought.

The site used to have a chat room, but it was abandoned due to a lack of interest afaik.

Yes, we did have one but it was really used very little. The thing about chatrooms is they are pretty good for getting to know each other, but you can see a lot of valuable info lost. Posting in the forum means it's more permanent. I mean someone asks a question a year ago in a chatroom, it's gone. If it's a forum post, it's still there.

Also, the fact that this site has such a global userbase means that it's hard to get consensus on times for scheduled talks and so on.

Oh ok.

The chatroom could be open at all times pretty much if you have UK and US mods on there.

We have a chat room at another forum that I belong to, and it is used almost all the time. We really don
t talk too much about fish in it (get enough of that in the forum) and there's not too many people that ask questions in it. When noobies come in expacting to talk about fish, they get disapointed when we all ay no, we really don't talk about fish in it.

It really brings us closer being in chat. We have no schedualed chats, we just og in when we go in. If we want to chat, we can invite people in if they are logged in, or we just go in and wait for others to come in.

When the site got a new server a few months ago, chat died, and it was down for a good 3 months....EVERYONE had chat withdrawls...lol That's how much we use it over there...

They really are a good idea. Do they cost anything to put on the site? If they are free, why not put one on?

Like I say, that wasn't our experience. They do have a cost, quite a lot actually. Not money, but time and they're more or less the same thing.
