New L129 group with pics.

Post by Didgeridoo »

Hey all,

Picked up a great group of L129 Hypancistrus sp. today. I got five wild caught fish for $50 CAD! I was super stoked at the price. They're regular $25/fish.

They're going in a tank with a few west african cichlids for now until I move them to their own tank. There's a bunch of driftwood, caves and some lava rock in there for them. Also there's some live plants to hide in as well.

I'm not 100% on trying to sex them but looked like 2m 3f although I was looking at the pectoral fins and vents.

Here's some pics.

They're all alive still so that's a good sign. I threw in some shrimp pellets last night to give them something to eat. They were pretty skinny at the fish shop. They were gone in the morning so somebody must of ate em. I'm pretty excited to work with this species. They seem like a pretty cool fish.

Anyone else keeping these guys?

They're funny to watch. They chase eachother from their territories. They're eating lots and doing well. One dug under a log and that's his spot. I'll post some pics soon of them in their tank.

Possible male? He's larger than the rest and is more "hairy". Also he's quite aggressive of his little hole.

Nice L129
They never do anything slowly, always darting about and harrassing each other, feeding time is when the squabbling is at its best !

Was funny watching them squabble over frozen bloodworms tonight. Didn't take pics though.

They look really nice plecs. Glad you are enjoying them and that they are eating well for you. Maybe they might breed one day. I saw at least one female in the pics.

They're still doing fantastic. Each one has picked out it's little territory. The dominant fish has very distinct markings and is always showing off. =P Luckily his spot is right in the middle of the tank so you get a good view all day. Been feeding with bloodworms, shrimp and spirulina pellets, zucchini, daphnia, and brine shrimp. No plans to spawn them just yet...will setup a separate tank with a bare bottom when I want to try.
