cast net, but a small one...
I have looked around but i cannot find an old internettshop that sold cast nets small enough to catch guppies.
Do any of you know of anyone who sells?
Its not like im in a hurry, but i will need some practice to get it right, so feel free to answer real quick if u'd like

Re: cast net, but a small one...
The smallest I've seen for sale had 6 mm mesh, but 8-9 mm nets are reasonably easy to find. You'll likely get some guppies with those, but I thinkthey're really a bit too coarse and most guppies will swim through.
If you're going collecting I might suggest a small beach seine instead, like these: http://www.pokorny-site.cz/en/a4-fishin ... seine.html
They're astonishingly effective at catching small fish.
Also you could try plastic minnow traps like these: http://www.minnowtraps.com/plastictraps.html
though I wouldn't expect them to be anywhere near as effective as a beach seine.

If you want a net operated by one person and small enough to catch guppies, you might consider a push net. The one in the picture was made with stainless steel tubing (for about USD20) and the net was sewn onto the frame in less than half a day.
Nothing more rewarding than catching fish with a net made with your own hands.

PC,
First of all great to hear from you again. I would recommend against cast nets in most cases (yeah, I know I am collecting Corys with one in my avatar). It takes a lot of practice to get very good with one and they are only useful in areas with clear banks (for throwing them) and little structure as they snag in the worst way. My stand by is always a 4'X4' seine as it is perfect for one person to use and folds up to the size of a T-shirt. Just cut some brails (the sticks that attach to the net) when you get to your collecting site.

You operate a seine alone? How do you manage that?

A 4'X4' (about 1.3 X 1.3 M) seine is meant for one person operation.
If you need a castnet, I use a Superspreader 6' (2M) with 3/8" mesh (about 1cm). For travel, the problem with a cast net (even such a small one) is that they weigh a lot due to the lead weights.

Yeah, pretty rare for me to put down a cold one. That sounds like a great festival. Please have a couple for me.

Oh, that's amazing. Never seen that design before, I thought it might be a pushnet type device, but that is really clever. Consider your design stolen!
