I bought 2*L201 , Could anyone tell me if they are male and female ?

Both males

They look a little thin, too, so make sure to keep them warm and feed some worms to get them settled.

Nice looking fish!

in this case i`m very sure. But a pair of my 5 129 males is breading in this moment :oops: .

Sexing H. contradens is the same for any other Hypancistrus including H. zebra.

Do a forum search for sexing Hypancistrus and you will get hundreds of hits.

The easiest way is by body shape. The male is roughly triangular shaped and has a big bulky head. His pectoral spines are thicker and are covered with odontodes. The female is fat around the middle and has a proportionally smaller head. See below

The biggest problem comes when trying to sex fish that are immature or out of condition. This is frequently the case in shops. My best suggestion is just to buy as many as you can and hope.

Hello,

here a pair of 129. Unfortunealy the female died and I was thinking there are only males left. The couple is till 3 days in the cave and no eggs till now :( .
