Re: USA Catfish Convention, October 2008
Sweet. Got a pic of the front and back of the t-shirt design? I'm on the edge about those field trips. I'm tempted to schedule in skipping class that day, lol.
I'm excited, I've been wanting to go since I heard about the last convention and that it's only the next state over, making it distinctly possible for me to go.

A picture of the T-shirt is available when you order on the registration page.
The front has the convention logo, the back has a drawing of South American waters overlaid with text for the convention.

Is that on the online registration form? I just looked at the mail-in form since I don't have Paypal.Andrew wrote:A picture of the T-shirt is available when you order on the registration page.

Hmmmmm, I must say this is a slight relief and an incentive to choose US over Germany, but I'm told that beerfestivals are even more lively than fishgatherings...

My main interest is African catfish. Since this is geared almost completely to South American I wonder if it's worth going to. In the past have they had many of the rarer Arican catfish for sale?
Thanks,
Tom

Re: USA Catfish Convention, October 2008
It is hard to say what catfish will be available for sale at the convention. Shipments of African catfish have been sporatic at best. I am sure there will be vendors selling fish as well as breeders selling out of their rooms. This years theme is the Amazon. The last two conventions did not have a particular theme. I gave and African catfish presentation at the last convention. One thing for sure everyone has a great time.

Re: USA Catfish Convention, October 2008
While the theme of "Expedition Amazon" will focus our speaker presentations on South American catfishes, other aspects of the convention will certainly feature catfishes from all over the world. The fish show, auction and vendor rooms will all likely showcase African fishes. At past conventions there have been many tank-raised catfishes like Synodontis spp. as well as imported specimens. In addition, there will be many folks interested in Old World catfishes who will be in attendance and will enjoy your company!
You'll have a great time, meet great people and certainly see things you haven't seen before.

Is there a place nearby where we can ship fish home?

Re: USA Catfish Convention, October 2008
The All Aquarium Catfish Convention is coming together well. I am new to PC but am part of PVAS and am heading up the vendor part of the convention. Each of the classes for fish show part of the convention now have sponsors and there are a number of great vendors that have signed up as well.
Another one of the exciting things this year is once again Margarita Tours is generously donating an Amazon collecting trip for raffle at our convention. There are only 50 raffle tickets that are being sold at $50.00 each so the chance of winning is great and the prize is tremendous. You must be registered for the convention to enter.
One of the interesting things about this convention is that attendees can register to sell their own fish from their rooms. This is not meant to compete with the vendors that will be there but rather a way other than the auction for hobbyists to sell their fish to other hobbyists. By registering as an in-room seller, we will know about who is selling and it will eliminate the possibility of conflicts.
The location of the convention in Laurel, Maryland is located between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC and is near several major airports for the attendees from other countries that will be attending.
For those that mentioned beer there will be a hospitality time each evening that will be fun for all.
I look forward to meeting everyone that will be attending.
