I had a eupterus for 12+ years, not sure how old it was when I got it though. It was fully grown already.

I know of many synos that have got to the high 20s & i think i read somewhere of a 30+ year old fish. yours do have a way to go yet!

One of my oldest fish is a eupterus. I raised it from a baby and have had it since about 1990 or so. Damn fish will probably outlive me, but he's a nice guy and a good citizen in his tank, so that's fine.

Re: lifespan of eupterus...
i once read an article in a book about syno flaviteniatus and the specimin in one of the musuems (i think it was in holland ) was older than 30 years and still going strong !
so if i was force into a corner i would say if they are well cared for in a large enough tank for there needs i-e: with no water/filter/bullying by other fish problems etc then 15-25 years would be a fair guess on most med-large synos but there will always be cases where some out live the general guidelines .
