Plea for CotM authors

Post by Jools »

Guys,

Anyone fancy writing a catfish of the month article? Have you been keeping a species not already featured (list here) and could write up some notes on it as well as any missing cat-elog info?

I am really struggling for time this month and possibly next one two.

If this is something you can do, please reply here with any questions or indeed commitment to producing some lines for a particualr species. It'll likely be several days before I have time to write on myself.

Cheers,

Jools

Well, it would need a little more work and, key point, I am not sure what species of is being discussed. Do you have photos we can add if the species is determined?

Jools,

Shockingly there isn't a COTM on the most commonly kept catfish of all.....

The common pleco, :!:

I might be able able to knock something up this evening. Nothing fancy though.

Interested?

I was surprised to find Phylonemus typus not there, but there is also Ancistrus claro or Microsynodontis sp.1

I would be comfortable to give any of these a try...you chose

Edit...no breeding info for the micro syno, could save that one for later

I prefer to feature described species for CotM article. sidguppy was always going to do one on and , although it's a fish I've kept and a great species to write about, is a loricariid and there are quite a lot of them featured already!

So, if you could write about , that would be great. I'd also say that, especially because February is a short month and a busy one for me, two or three CotM's ahead of time would really help me as I can just plug them in on the 1st day of the month and spend what time i do have on the site attending to other things (like the enhancements to "my cats" that I've been meaning to do for months).

Many thanks,

Jools

Phyllonemus typus and Ancistrus claro are both fish I'm keeping at the moment. If you need any specific pics, just yell and I'll see what I can do :).

Jools,

Rusty has my photos of both the Phyllonemus holding and of the fry. Feel free to use any that you like. He has them on his laptop and can give to you next week at the CSG Convention.

I don't think I saw the brown bullhead or the tadpole madtom on that list, perhaps I missed them. If not I can do articles on those.

Yes, although this would be a big one. I mean, the whole mass produced in Singapore thing, why it's a great fish but not a great fish and all that. But, yes, it would be a good one.

Amanda has already come through, but I know from expereience that promises of articles are different from quality articles arriving in your inbox. I'm looking forward to all these pledges coming through!

There's a second benefit, simply that what time I have on the site can then be spent on more technical things.

That would be really good indeed.

There isn't really an instruction. The general format is to talk about the one species (as opposed to a group or genus) and to try and get across as much first hand experience as possible. Many authors also talk about telling them apart from similar species and breeding info if available. If there is any catelog data sheet information missing or needing updated then that should be identified too. There is no maximum length, the minimum would be a few paragraphs.
